Milosz writes about Poland during and after WW2.
Going from sovereign country to Nazi invasion to Russian Communism takeover, and the mindf**k it had on citizens.
Every American should read it. All sounds familiar.
Using my highlighter a lot.

James Henry Schmitz (October 15, 1911 – April 18, 1981) was a German-American science fiction writer. Best known as a writer of "space opera", and for his strong female characters who did not conform to the "damsel in distress" of science fiction of the time. Schmitz's best work is The Witches of Karres:

Gosh, it is charmingly written, and reminds me of tenets of thought I have come across in #geopolitical works like The Rise And Fall Of The Great Powers when they discuss #America
> At first sight there is something surprising in this strange unrest of so many happy men, restless in the midst of abundance. The spectacle itself, however, is as old as the world; the novelty is to see a whole people furnish an exemplification of it.
Rare letter offers glimpse into Bram Stoker’s early thoughts on Dracula

Mars Trilogy
by
Kim Stanley Robinson
Revised my review downward...
If you are a KSR fan then this is a must read, but I got very bored in the long, long parts that are just descriptions of scenery, and political ideas... I gave up and quit reading during Blue Mars at the 66% mark.
