One of my favourite websites is greekmythology.com, which I often use for picking names.

My current WIP SciFi project has a dominant biblical theme, but the world I've created also has a counterparty that has given itself a Greek theme to distinguish itself from the main society.

I definitely have a thing for religious themes in SciFi. As long as it's at a reasonable level. It's one of the aspects I like so much about Babylon5 and Battlestar Galactica (2003).

Tonight's movie was Aniara (2019).

Aniara is a bleak look at the downward spiral of humanity in a microcosm. A dark poetic allegory of humanity lost and rudderless in space and life.

This movie is a pure and original piece of sci-fi that is as haunting as it is frustrating. It sometimes gets lost in its own thoughts, but escapes that gravity enough to have glimmers of brilliance.

Rated 7 out of 10.

400 years from now there is barely any electricity, so no radio, no TV, no internet

Throughout Wolfland it’s a tradition to have a night out on a Saturday.

In Lancaster, OpenMike runs the Variety Show. Music, dance, songs, comedy skits, etc.

The book is often punctuated with music and song.

The Orchestra of Miss Fortune appears regularly.

Even aboard ship, things stop for 'Saturday night fun night'.

This time we have eight judges, I want the two kids in the middle, and three adults on each side. You soon will! Franklin and Faraday will be here, and Sylvie has arranged for the CopperWolf and the Provost and the Professor to sit on the panel with her tonight. We only do the Talent Night once every quarter, and we usually get a really good turnout. It normally brings together our best performers. Kayt and Conning are regulars, MaxChaos has a slot tonight, that’s a first, and we have some irregular light entertainment which you’ll see later. Not panto, but similar, a bizarre melodrama filling in the gaps between acts. Oh, and leave this space here for the orchestra. The school orchestra! Miss Fortune needs that piano put there, and she needs eight chairs for her pupils, violins and cellos mainly, and one young lad with three kettle drums! copyright © Scott Rochester 2025
