I am blown away by the results I got from testing SeaweedFS to copy small files 4.8GB (45651 files) via s3.
When compared with Minio it really shows.
Anyone tried SeaweedFS https://github.com/chrislusf/seaweedfs and have any experience or feedback to share? Thanks

This is a #Fediverse reminder that it's okay to choose large instances, it's okay to choose small instances, it's okay to choose multiple instances, and it's okay to change instances.
Just try to remember to caption your images and put potentially upsetting stuff behind a content warning (CW).
"But in time this office, my retreat, started to become a place of exclusion or of hiding, a place where I could turn away from the world, under the guise of being creative, at the expense of all else...
Perhaps the thing we have spent so much time escaping, or attempting to create, was there all along – the blessed space, the sacred space, the truly creative place – the world around us." - https://www.theredhandfiles.com/create-sacred-space/
"The simple fact is that dealing with human nature and human communication is much, much, much more complex than teaching a car how to drive by itself. And there is no perfect solution. There is no “congrats, we got there” moment in content moderation. Because humans are complex and ever-changing. And content moderation on a platform like Twitter is about recognizing that complexity and figuring out ways to deal with it." - https://www.techdirt.com/2022/04/15/elon-musk-demonstrates-how-little-he-understands-about-content-moderation/

"I feel mad, because I had no idea one guy with a gun could fuck up my life so hard in six minutes. Fuck up so many lives! Then I think I should be grateful to be alive. I feel like, I don't know, maybe there's some weird fucked up reason why I made it and other people didn't. Um, but then when you sit back and you think about it, you realize, 'No! There isn't. There's no fucking reason.' None of us should've died." - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11847410/
Server rental vs buying and paying collocation
I just spent some time looking at server buying+collocation vs rental for a server with an 8c/16t CPU, 128 RAM and 2x1TB NVMe.
Buy: ~€3000 + €50/month collocation.
Cost after 5 year:
If asking for credit to pay the server over 5 years: €7500
So, only profitable with cash at hand or if you use the server for more than 5 years (obviously doable but hard to make 5 year decisions in tech).
After you generate the csv go to 'Account->Import and export->Import' and upload the csv. That will follow everyone from the Trunk categories you chosen.
The script source is here: https://github.com/hugogameiro/trunk-to-csv
If you have just installed Mastodon and don't know where to start to find people to follow a good idea is to try and check other users follows and one by one try to see if you find someone to follow.
Alternatively you can go to https://communitywiki.org/trunk and do the same on the categories that interest you.
If you are lazy and don't want to look up one by one, I created a little script to generate a csv from Trunk categories: https://hugo.gameiro.pt/trunk-to-csv/ that you can then import in Mastodon.
Damn, I spent 6 hours writing this post https://masto.host/access-to-backups/
Looking at it, doesn't feel like 6 hours of work but I tracked it :)
"A person with no regrets is simply leading an unexamined life. Personally I try to look at our trespasses not as sins but as sufferings — that we have at our core an essential goodness, but that over time this goodness is loaded up with layers of suffering that lead ultimately to all manner of fucked-up behaviour." - https://www.theredhandfiles.com/i-just-cant-forgive-myself/
Highly recommend https://obsidian.md/ for note taking, brain dumps, writing, second brain, code snippet storage, personal diary and so on.
The local storage system in markdown is the right solution for something so personal and one would never guess how simple the storage is just by using the app interface.
The more I use it the more I love it.
